Continuous Computing Selects GoAhead SAFfire for FlexTCA System
Fully-integrated, carrier-class system provides an application-ready, rapid development platform that enables telecom equipment manufacturers to save time and money

MVA COMMUNICATIONS ECOSYSTEM CONFERENCE (SAN FRANCISCO), SAN DIEGO, and BELLEVUE, Wash. – March 11, 2008— Continuous Computing®, global provider of integrated systems and services that enable telecom equipment manufacturers to rapidly deploy Next Generation Networks (NGN), today announced the selection of GoAhead® Software’s SAFfire™ middleware to ensure an open standards-based approach to availability and management within the FlexTCA™ System. This fully-integrated, application-ready platform allows customers to focus on delivering application-specific value supported by the system. The end result is that telecom equipment manufacturers can get to market faster and more affordably with reduced project risk and complexity.  GoAhead SAFfire was selected as the most comprehensive implementation of the Service Availability™ Forum (SA Forum) Application Interface Specification (AIS) and GoAhead’s experience in the market, with more than 30,000 instances of off-the-shelf middleware deployed worldwide.

“As the pressure grows to reduce costs and be first-to-market with differentiating services, more and more of our customers are turning to open standards-based solutions to gain an edge in this competitive environment,” states Mike Dagenais, president and chief executive officer of Continuous Computing. “By extending GoAhead SAFfire, the leading AIS solution on the market, our FlexTCA System offers not only a best-in-class, application-ready ATCA hardware platform, but also an open standards-based implementation of Trillium® System Software, including the Unified Management Interface and Trillium fault-tolerant  protocol software. This is a significant stepping stone for telecom equipment manufacturers who aim to realize the time and cost savings that standards offer without needing to spend valuable internal resources on platform integration,” says Dagenais.

This integrated solution jointly developed by GoAhead and Continuous Computing includes validated capabilities such as platform management and comprehensive high availability and system management. This functionality is achieved via support of AIS functionality such as the Availability Management Framework, Cluster Membership Service, Checkpoint Service, Event Service, Message Service, Log Service and Notification Service. Additional key features include resource discovery and system model instantiation, shelf manager integration and integration with Continuous Computing systems management capabilities. This functionality is realized through the use of the SA Forum Hardware Platform Interface (HPI).

“GoAhead is pleased to team with Continuous Computing to equip the FlexTCA System with sophisticated availability and management requirements out-of-box,” states Jim Ewel, chief executive officer of GoAhead Software. “Because this application-ready platform is based on open standards, network equipment providers can easily port applications, ensure platform flexibility and meet development schedules,” says Ewel.

CONTINUOUS COMPUTING AND GOAHEAD SOFTWARE DEMONSTRATING AT THE MOUNTAIN VIEW ALLIANCE – COMMUNICATIONS ECOSYSTEM CONFERENCE (MVACEC) 2008
Please visit Continuous Computing and GoAhead Software at MVACEC, March 11-12, at the South San Francisco Convention Center. Here Continuous Computing and GoAhead Software will demonstrate the fully-integrated FlexTCA System featuring Trillium fault-tolerant protocols with GoAhead SAFfire middleware and the Unified Management Interface on a 10GbE packet processing platform. The system demonstrates how SIP sessions can be managed and shows how the high availability middleware is able to maintain calls and states in the event of blade or switch failure.
