GoAhead Announces SelfReliant 4.1
Leading High Availability Solution Helps Customers Realize the Value of Service Availability Forum Standards

BELLEVUE, Wash. – March 28, 2006 – GoAhead® Software, the expert in building integrated middleware for highly available systems, today announced the immediate availability of SelfReliant® 4.1, its carrier-grade application ready high availability (HA) software platform. The newest release offers enhanced pre-integration with Oracle TimesTen as well as continued leadership in implementing the Service Availability Forum (SA Forum) standards with support of the Hardware Platform Interface (HPI) MIB module and other improved management capabilities. Equipment manufacturers utilize GoAhead’s standards-based, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions to gain a competitive edge. Motorola, a leading provider of seamless mobility with a complete portfolio of cellular, wireless broadband and wireline access technologies and Operax, a leading provider of Quality of Service (QoS) control products for IP-based networks, have selected SelfReliant 4.1 to help them reduce costs and accelerate the time to market for their next generation products.

“We are extremely pleased to be the frontrunner in helping the industry realize the value of standards-based, COTS solutions,” states Dr. Asif Naseem, GoAhead Chief Operating Officer and CTO. “SelfReliant is a proven HA platform for developers of platforms requiring 99.999%+ availability and allows them to focus their energy on differentiating applications,” Naseem continues.

Motorola uses GoAhead SelfReliant for a standard high availability platform across a range of equipment including radio network controllers (RNCs), Node Bs, base station controllers (BSCs) and voice processing units (VPUs). “GoAhead’s products and expertise have greatly contributed to Motorola’s ability to supply customers with superior, highly available solutions over the last six years,” said Bruce Stone, senior vice president of cellular networks at Motorola. “One highlight of our work with them includes a Voice Processing Unit (VPU) that has performed at above five nines availability throughout its first two years of deployment at a major American carrier."

Operax, an independent software provider, recently selected GoAhead SelfReliant 4.1 as the HA solution in its carrier-class bandwidth management and QoS solutions, enabling multi-service networks to achieve guaranteed, end-to-end service delivery. Operax solutions enable service providers and network operators to create new revenue streams on existing network infrastructure as well as efficient migration to next generation of converged multi-service networks. “We chose GoAhead SelfReliant based on their 10 years of expertise enabling organizations to speed time to market and reduce development and integration costs,” states Emil Svanberg, Operax vice president of product management.

SELFRELIANT 4.1 NEW FEATURES AND FUNCTIONALITY

  • Long-lived Transitions
SelfReliant 4.1 now supports long-lived transitions, enabling resources that require an extensive time period to complete a transition, such as database instances, to do so while properly reflecting the in-progress state transition within the SelfReliant system model. By reflecting the resource’s true state during long-lived transitions the system can continue to perform other availability management activities and the processing of subsequent events or failures can implement the appropriate policies based on a resource’s in-progress transition. Once the resource has completed the targeted transition, the system is notified and the processing of the long-lived transition is completed.
  • Carrier Grade Application Ready Platform: Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database Integration
A variety of telecom applications, especially converged voice and data services, require fast in-memory database functionality integrated into the application ready platform. SelfReliant enables seamless integration with Oracle’s TimesTen database through specialized glue logic that allows SelfReliant to synchronize and drive role changes in this in-memory database.  SelfReliant represents these databases as managed objects, models dependencies, and drives the necessary role changes to allow coordinated failover with the entire system, including hardware, software and networks. By providing a pre-integrated and validated solution combining SelfReliant and Oracle TimesTen, customers can be assured of a robust solution at a reasonable cost.
  • HPI MIB Extensions
The SelfReliant HPI MIB Module extends the existing external systems management already provided by the SelfReliant Object MIB Module to expose Hardware Platform Interface (HPI) data for hardware resources through an SNMP interface. This makes it possible for an overall outside system manager to have access to hardware element specific data and functionality without pre-knowledge or hardware specific integration work. Some examples of accessible data include reset and power state, sensor attributes and inventory attributes.  The HPI MIB Module also provides SNMP read/write access to Field Replaceable Units (FRU) states to initiate the extraction and insertion of an FRU. In addition, the HPI MIB Module provides a single system image to external management entities such that HPI information for hardware resources spread across multiple chassis can be accessed from a single point of access.

SELFRELIANT 4.1 PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
GoAhead SelfReliant 4.1 is immediately available.  Pricing remains unchanged from previous releases of SelfReliant.  The Oracle TimesTen connector will be provided separate from the base product.
